A few of my posts have focused on the process clients go through in writing RFPs pr selecting a webdesign agency. Over at “The Ad Contrarian” there is a simplistic letter for selecting an Ad Agency. Here is a link to the full article. For discussion purposes I’ve copied the body of the letter here.
Dear XYZ Agency,
We are looking for an ad agency. We would like to consider yours. If you’re interested, please read the information we’ve attached, then answer two questions:
1. In your opinion, what are the key marketing issues we’re facing?
2. If you were our agency, what would you do about it?
You may take as much or as little time as you need. Please call me and let me know when you’d like to come in to answer these questions.
Thank you,
Bob
While it would be simple to copy this letter and change “Ad Agency” to “Web Design Agency” I’m not sure it would be as on target as Contratian’s so I’m going to give some thought to this over the holidays and come up with a letter for selecting a web design firm.
If you have any ideas please share.

One of my favorites, after a long verbose description of how interactive and engaging thier site is to be, the one liner
“We would like to include an ecommerce section on our web site.”
The follow up question to this on-liner specification request is
“Well, we really like how Amazon.com does it!”
And they are usually serious…
